Partition Horrors Remembrance Day-14 August
Painful story of unprecedented
HUMAN DISPLACEMENT
The partition of India is a painful story of unprecedented human displacement and forced
migration. Apart from being the story of a violent partition on religious grounds, it is also the story
of how a way of life and an era of years-old coexistence came to an abrupt and dramatic end.
The convoy of displaced people was 10 to 27 miles long. Many lost their lives due to rain, hunger,
and riots. The number of people killed in this tragedy is said to be 5 lakh, but it is estimated to
be between 5 and 10 lakh. To pay tribute to the millions of Indians who lost their lives during the
migration and suffered the pain of displacement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi started celebrating
Partition Horrors Memorial Day in 2021…
