New temple of Democracy
New Parliament House: Connecting
our heritage and modernity
n Dr. Bimal Patel, the architect of the new temple of
democracy, received the Padma Shri, the World Architect
Award, and the Prime Minister's Award for Excellence,
but considers getting the opportunity to design the new
Parliament House the biggest award.
n The construction work of the new Parliament building was
completed in less than two and a half years by about
60 thousand laborers with an employment rate of more
than 23 lakh man days.
n A huge audience gallery has been constructed to
welcome the public in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.
n Apart from being eco-friendly, this building is also
earthquake-resistant. There are more than 1700 doors
and windows.
n A building corridor is three and a half kilometres long. This
building is a wonderful confluence of development and
heritage.
n On the one hand, there is a system of smart features and
smart access for safety and convenience. There is also a
wonderful integration of the ancient arts of India.
n Around 500 people were involved in designing the new
Parliament House in different aspects and making it a
special place to meet the needs.
n The state-of-the-art digital equipment also has
biometric facilities for the members. There is a huge
multimedia display for the telecast of voting results and
proceedings of the House.
n Automatic camera control and a command centre have
also been constructed. The new Smart Parliament House
is completely paperless.
n Three galleries have been created to incorporate Indian
symbols throughout the architecture of the new building.
The dance, song, and music traditions of India are
displayed in the Music Gallery, the Indian architectural
heritage in the Heritage Gallery, and the state-specific
handicraft traditions in the Craft Gallery.
n No tree has been cut for the construction of the new
building; all the trees were transplanted from here.
n Along with transplanting a banyan tree in the courtyard
built on the theme of the national tree, trees growing in
different areas have been engraved in each lattice.
