                                                                      SCHEMES FOR WOMEN

                                                              n    The Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao scheme was launched
                                                                 by Prime Minister Modi on January 22, 2015, from
                                                                 Panipat in Haryana.

                                                              n    The scheme was started with the aim of bringing
                                                                 behavioural change in society towards the birth rights
                                                                 of the girl child.
                                                              n    It is because of the Centre's plans that Percentage-
                                                                 wise there are more Indian female (43%) graduates
                                                                 in STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering,
                                                                 Mathematics) which is higher than in many
                                                                 developed economies like the USA, UK, and Germany.
                                                              n    About 70 percent of the loans under the PM Mudra
                                                                 Yojana are being given to enterprises owned and
                                                                 operated by women.
                                                              n    The Women Economic Empowerment Scheme has
                                                                 been implemented by the Ministry of Social Justice
                                                                 and Empowerment to help scheduled castes, single
                                                                 women, and widows engage in income-generating
                                                                 activities.
                                                              n    Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY)
                                                                 was launched nationwide in January 2017. Under the
                                                                 scheme, Rs 5,000 is given to the eligible beneficiary
                                                                 for meeting certain nutritional and health-related
                                                                 conditions during pregnancy and lactation.
