IMPORTANT MEANS OF FOSTERING CULTURAL

UNDERSTANDING, COOPERATION, AND PEACE

India has a diverse cultural heritage. Museums play an important role in preserving, promoting,
and maintaining history, as well as reminding us of our lives' rich past. In addition, they are educat-
ing the next generation. This is why International Museum Day is observed every year on May 18.
Over 1,000 museums in India are managed by various ministries of the government of India.
