Utkal Diwas: April 1
India Is Proud Of Odisha’s
History, Literature And Music
Odisha celebrates its 90th foundation day on April 1, known as Utkal Diwas. This is the
day when ‘Orissa’ was created on a linguistic basis in 1936 by separating parts of the then
Bihar, Madras Presidency, and United Bengal. ‘Utkal Diwas’ has been celebrated on this day
ever since. In 2011, the name was changed to ‘Odisha.’ This land, where Emperor Ashoka
preached the message of non-violence, also played a significant role in the freedom struggle.
India is proud of the history, literature, and music of this sacred land of Lord Jagannath…
“Greetings on Utkal Divas. It is a day
to acknowledge the rich role of Odisha,
the Odia people, and culture in the
progress of our nation. May the people
of Odisha be blessed with good health
and prosperity in the years to come.”
Narendra Modi, Prime Minister
