National Handloom Day
August 7
A Symbol of Rich and
Diverse Cultural Heritage
India’s handloom sector is a symbol of the nation’s rich and diverse cultural heritage
and played a pivotal role in the freedom struggle. The Swadeshi Movement, launched
on August 7, 1905, championed indigenous industries—particularly handlooms—as a
form of economic resistance against colonial rule. To honor the legacy of handloom
artisans and revive this ancient Indian art form, the Government of India declared
August 7 as National Handloom Day in 2015. Since then, this day serves as an
annual reminder of our collective resolve to honor the weaving community
and to preserve and promote India’s handloom heritage...
12th
National
Handloom Day
will be
celebrated on
August 7, 2026
We take immense pride in the rich handloom heritage
and vibrant traditions across our country. We also deeply
appreciate the efforts of our artisans and reiterate our
commitment to promote ‘Vocal for Local’.
