Bhaskar Varma Setu

n Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the Kumar
Bhaskar Varma Setu, built at a cost of approximately
₹3,030 crore over the Brahmaputra River.
n This 6-lane extradosed prestressed concrete (PSC)
bridge, connecting Guwahati to North Guwahati, is
the first extradosed bridge in Northeast India.
n It will reduce travel time between Guwahati and
North Guwahati to just 7 minutes.
n Considering the high seismicity of the region, the
bridge incorporates base isolation technology using
friction pendulum bearings.

n High-quality stay cables have been used to maintain
the bridge’s stability and long-term structural integrity.
n Additionally, a bridge health monitoring system has
