BRICS 2026 | COVER STORY
India has been an integral part of the BRICS story since its inception, and today, one in
every two people on Earth resides in a BRICS nation. The group represents approximately
50 percent of the global population, 40 percent of the global GDP, and over 25 percent of
global trade. While the global economy has expanded two-and-a-half-fold over the past two
decades, the combined GDP of BRICS nations has grown four-and-a-half-fold. The 18th BRICS
Summit, held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on September 12–13, 2026, celebrated the
completion of two decades of this journey. Assuming the presidency for the fourth time in
2026, India introduced the theme: Building Resilience and Innovation for Cooperation and
Sustainability. This mantra has served as the foundation of India’s economic policy for the
past 12 years. Amidst rising trade barriers, India has emerged as an economic bridge and
a symbol of trust; furthermore, through the “New Delhi Declaration,” it has steered BRICS
toward a new, more effective, and human-centric direction.
