sense of dignity and security to the people.
As Prime Minister Narendra Modi took the
charge of the country in 2014, he made it
clear that it was his dream that every Indian
family must have their own house by 2022.
So far, about 1.10 Crore houses have been
sanctioned under Pradhan Mantri Awas
Yojana-Urban [PMAY(U)]. Also, close to
two Crore rural houses have been built.
With rapid urbanisation, India’s
construction needs are changing. To cater to
this need, cutting-edge and alternate global
technological innovations are essential.
Now, the Government is using technology to
build houses which have durability, climate-
resilience, affordability and safety.
On the very first day of 2021, the Prime
Minister laid down the foundation stone of
the Light House Projects (LHPs) across six
States under the Global Housing Technology
Challenge (GHTC).
The LHPs will pave the way for a
new ecosystem where globally proven
technologies will be adopted for cost-
