NEW HOPE
ENERGY REVOLUTION NEW DAWN
India to emerge as the
GLOBAL POWERHOUSE
o attain the goal of 'One Nation, One Grid and One Frequency', Union
TFinance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in her Budget speech in 2019
proposed the concept of a 'One Nation, One Grid'. At present, the country is divided
into five grids. Power Grid Corporation of India says that by the end of 12th Five Year
Plan, the country had total inter-regional transmission capacity of about 75,050 MW. It is
expected to be enhanced to about 1,18,050 MW by the end of 13th plan. Synchronisation of
regional grids will help in optimal utilisation of scarce natural resources from resource-centric
regions to load-centric regions. With more focus on renewable energy and Prime Minister
Narendra Modi talking about 'One Sun, One World, One Grid', India having 36 per cent share of
renewable energy is likely to emerge as the energy hub of the world
