        A FACELIFT FOR KASHI

        VISHWANATH DHAM

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s special focus has resulted
into planning and execution of Kashi Vishwanaath Dham
corridor in Varanasi which would be ready by 2021

aranasi, the oldest city in the world, has some hidden
treasure troves inside the city, but they all are lost in the
Vconcrete jungle. The initiative, planning and execution
of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who also happens to be the
Member of Parliament from the city, have helped discover
some real architectural marvels albeit in a dilapidated condition.
These temples and other buildings were almost inaccessible
due to encroachments. Kashi Vishwanath Corridor has not
only given a new lease of life to over 63 ancient temples but
has also given a facelift to Kashi Vishwanath Temple. The
Prime Minister laid the foundation of the corridor on March 8,
2019, and the work is going on in full swing which is expected
to be complete by August 2021. The project is spread across
in approximately 50,261 square metre area. As per the plan,
24 buildings are being constructed in the entire campus.
Around 28 per cent work of the project is complete and by
August 2021, this will be open for public.
l Under this project, around 63 small, medium and big
sized temples will be renovated and rehabilitated.
They include Panch Pandav, Gangeshwar Mahadev,
           Manokameshwar, Neelkanth Mahadev, Dwadas
Ling and some other temples. The work is also on to
           modernise Goenka Library
l Special care is being taken for the rehabilitation of
people residing in 314 identified buildings which
would be affected by the renovation work of the
           project
l The main attraction of this project is the temple
premises with an area of 3,175 sq metre
l Besides this Mandir Chowk, City Museum,
           Varanasi Gallery, Multi-purpose Building, Tourist
           Service Centre, Mumukshu Bhawan, Guest
           House, Neelkanth Mandap, Security Office,
           Bhogshala, Aadhunik Book Store, Refreshment
Centre and Vedic Kendra are being made
           accessible to Divyangjan

                                                                                  New India Samachar 27
