MY FRIEND, SHINZO ABE

With the untimely demise of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who was honoured
with India's civilian award, "Padma Vibhushan," the world has lost a global politician, an
outstanding leader, and an able administrator who dedicated his life to making Japan and
the world a better place. As a mark of deep respect for Shinzo Abe, the Indian government
observed a day of national mourning on July 9, the day after his death. Prime Minister
Narendra Modi's friendship with Shinzo Abe began during his tenure as Chief Minister of
