In the popular "Mann Ki Baat" programme just before the completion of 75 years of
India's independence, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made the people feel the days of
freedom struggle, along with moving towards self-reliance in the fields of toys and the
country’s distinct identity in the world of sports. He also talked about the importance
of fairs in the culture of India and Amrit Mahotsav becoming a mass movement. Here
are excerpts from "Mann Ki Baat":

Self-reliant Toy Sector: Thanks to our start-up entrepreneurs, because of whom our toy industry has
achieved the success that no one could have imagined today. Toys worth more than Rs 3000 crore
used to be imported from abroad; today, our imports have been reduced by 70%. Today, India has
exported toys worth more than Rs 2600 crore to foreign countries. Let us all work together to make
Indian toys more popular all over the world.
A Start-up named Shumme Toys: A start-up named Shumme Toys in Bengaluru is focusing on
eco-friendly toys. Arkidzoo Company in Gujarat is producing AR-based Flash Cards and AR-based
Storybooks. Funvention, a Pune-based company, is dedicated to piquing children's interest in Science,
Technology, and Math through learning, toys, and activity puzzles.

Indian pride in sports: Today, our youth are making the country proud in every field. PV Sindhu won
her maiden title at the Singapore Open. Neeraj Chopra won silver for India in the World Athletics
Championships. Our players took home 11 medals at the Ireland Para Badminton International. Our
athlete Suraj has done wonders in the Greco-Roman event. He has won the Gold Medal in wrestling in
this event after a long gap of 32 years.
Importance of Indian Fairs: Fairs play an important role in our culture. If you are visiting Himachal, you
must see the "Minjar Mela" in Chamba. The Saralamma Jatara Mela is celebrated in honour of two
tribal female warriors—Samakka and Saralamma. This fair is called the Maha Kumbh of Telangana.
Many fairs like Maridamma fair in Andhra Pradesh, Siawa fair in Rajasthan, Mavli fair in Narayanpur in
Chhattisgarh, Tarnetar and Madhopur in Gujarat are also famous.
AYUSH emerging as a new hope: AYUSH has played a significant role in the global fight against Covid.
AYUSH exports have increased significantly, and many new start-ups are emerging in this sector. A
Global AYUSH Investment and Innovation Summit was recently held, and investment proposals worth
approximately Rs 10,000 crore were received. Since the pandemic, there has also been an increase in
research on medicinal plants.
Amrit Mahotsav became a mass movement: The Amrit Mahotsav of Independence is taking the form
of a mass movement. Tribute to Shaheed Udham Singh and other freedom fighters who laid down
their lives for the country. People in Meghalaya remembered the contribution of U. Tirot Singh in the
freedom struggle through a popular carnival. A unique campaign in Karnataka called Amrita Bharathi
Kannadaarthi paid tribute to the freedom fighters of the region.
