FROM EDITOR’S DESK
Greetings!
While India is celebrating Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the election of a woman from the tribal community to
the highest constitutional post of the country serves as a strong example of social transformation and the
steadfast resolve of the new India. Every aspect of the life of Droupadi Murmu, who rose from a humble
background to become the President of India, will forever inspire and influence the generations to come.
Her rise from the rank and file to become President from the Councilor of a ward underscores that she
crossed every hurdle to assume highest constitutional post.
Her metamorphic rise underpins the greatness of India and the power of democracy that a daughter born
in a poor house, a daughter born in a far-flung tribal area, can reach the highest constitutional post of
India. President Murmu also acknowledged in her maiden address," Reaching the post of President is not
my personal achievement, it is the achievement of every poor in India. My election is proof that the poor
in India can dream and make their dreams come true. It is a matter of great satisfaction for me that those
who have been deprived for centuries, who have been away from the benefits of development, the poor, the
downtrodden, the backward and the tribals can see their reflection in me."
The tribal communities of India have made unforgettable contributions and sacrifices in the freedom
movement. But for a long period post-Independence, no government took concrete steps for the
development and upliftment of tribal communities. No efforts were made to bring them to the national
mainstream by ensuring their social and economic growth, while they also remained devoid of proper
political representation. But now the progress of the tribal communities as well as every section of the
society with all-inclusive thinking of development is preparing the new legacy of New India. The government
approach is very wide and envisages not only women's empowerment but going a step further to promote
women-led development. The election of Droupadi Murmu is a point in a case that when the opportunity
came to choose the new President of the country under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,
then he reposed faith in a woman President.
Be it women empowerment or social justice, for Prime Minister Modi it means providing equal opportunities
to every section of the society, no one should be deprived of the basic necessities of life.
The real yardstick of development is when its benefit reaches Dalits, Backward, Adivasis, Women, and
Divyang. As India marches to fast development how the election of President Droupadi Murmu serves as a
triumph for the unrelenting resolve of Prime Minister Modi to make a better India is the cover story of this
edition.
