producers and increase their income. This will also boost the rural economy of the region.
ocated in the Sabarkantha district of Gujarat,
Sabar Dairy is the leading dairy in the country.
LIn the year 1964, due to the tireless efforts of
Bhurabhai Patel, Gopalbhai Patel and Ambubhai
Patel, and Dr. Verghese Kurien, Sabar Dairy started
with 19 milk-producing societies, today it boasts of
lakhs of milk-producing farmers associated with 1800
societies. Millions of farmers from the Sabarkantha
district are scripting stories of progress and self-
reliance, thanks to the steps taken by the central and
state government for a strong dairy sector, and the top
management of Sabar Dairy and Amul Sansthan.
While inaugurating and laying foundation stones
of several projects worth over Rs 1,000 crore at Sabar
Dairy near Gadhoda Chowki in Sabarkantha, Gujarat,
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “Today Sabar
Dairy has expanded. New projects worth hundreds of
crores are being set up here. Sabar Dairy's capacity
will increase further with the addition of a milk powder
plant with modern technology and one more line in the
aseptic packing section.” These projects will empower
local farmers and milk producers and increase their
income. This will also boost the rural economy of
the region. Sabar Dairy has established modern dairy
plants in many other states of the country including
Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Haryana, and Punjab, besides
Gujarat, opening new doors of opportunities for
farmers and livestock farmers and constantly working
towards establishing new plants for processing new
products. The empowerment of millions of women
has always been at the heart of rural development of
Sabar Dairy and Amul. By introducing the technology
of modern dairy from village to village it has become
a catalyst in the task of connecting women with
development journey. Sabar Dairy is a part of Gujarat
Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF),
which manufactures and markets a complete range
of milk and milk products under the Amul brand.
