SOLAR ENERGY SAVES $4.2 BILLION IN FUEL COSTS
ndia is rapidly increasing its solar energy production as a
Iresult of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision, which led
the International Solar Alliance with the concept of "One
Sun, One Grid" for the world. In 2014-2015, the country had
2.63 GW of installed solar power capacity, which has now
increased nearly 22 times to more than 57.71 GW. As a
result of solar energy production, India has saved $4.2 billion
in fuel costs and 19.4 million metric tonnes of coal in the
first half of 2022.
A recent report by think tank Amber, the Center for
Research on Energy and Clean Air, and the Institute for
Energy Economics and Financial Analysis highlights these
fuel cost savings as a result of India's growing solar capacity.
According to the report, between January and June 2022, the
seven Asian countries saved a total of $ 34 billion in potential
fossil fuel costs. Not only that, but India, China, Japan, South
Korea, and Vietnam are among the top ten economies.
