The development which was once limited only to budget,
tender, laying foundation and inauguration, has become
more effective due to farsighted policies in recent times.
The central government, engaged in laying a strong
foundation for a developed India by building modern
infrastructure, is spending Rs 7 lakh crore on infrastructure
in the current financial year, which was less than Rs 2 lakh
crore eight years ago. On December 18, Prime Minister
Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone
of projects worth Rs 6,800 crore in Shillong and Agartala
to speed up the development of the Northeast, while
addressing the golden jubilee meeting of the North Eastern
Council, he said, " We are not building border of disputes in
the Northeast but a corridor of development...
n the last 8 years, the present Central Government has shown
'Red Card' to many obstacles related to the development
Iof the North East. The Government is determined to make
the North East a center not only of economic development
but also of cultural development. Under this effort, now the
government has moved from 'Look East' policy to 'Act East'
and now going beyond that, its policy has become 'Act Fast
for North East' and 'Act First for North East'. At the meeting
of the North Eastern Council (NEC) in Shillong, Prime Minister
Narendra Modi appreciated the contribution of the Council
in the development of the North Eastern region and said,
“Many peace and inter-state boundary agreements have been
signed in this region, there has been a notable reduction in the
incidence of militancy."
Prime Minister Modi again referred to the 8 states of the
Northeast as Ashta Lakshmi, saying, “The government has to
work on 8 pillars for its development- peace, power, tourism,
5G connectivity, culture, natural farming, sports and potential
development.” While sharing his thoughts on Net Zero in
this meeting, the Prime Minister said that the North East can
become a powerhouse of hydroelectricity. The Government
is determined to make the North East a center not only of
economic development but also of cultural development. He
