        Jan Dhan Account:

        The Cornerstone of People-

        Centric Economic Initiatives

A bank account is the first foundation of economic
security, but only 14.48 crore of the 24.67 crore families
had banking facilities in 2011. On August 28, 2014,
the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) was
launched with the goal of providing services to the
unbanked, securing the unbanked, and providing
finance to the unfunded. Currently, 80% of people
have a bank account. The emphasis in this scheme,
which became the cornerstone of the people-centric
economic initiative, is now on the account of "every
adult" in "every household." The International Monetary
Fund has praised Jan Dhan for increasing access to
        bank accounts and financial services.
n In the first year, 17.90 crore accounts were opened
in PMJDY; now, the total number of accounts has
surpassed 48 crore. This is more than the combined
population of the United States, Canada, and the United
          Kingdom.
n There were 14.72 crore Jan Dhan accounts in March 2015, 33 crore
          which had nearly tripled.
                                                                RuPay Cards
n Women account for 56% (26 crore) of Jan Dhan account
holders. were distributed. The amount of free

The accessibility of this fuel was limited to
the affluent class and cities for six decades.
               The revolutionary Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala
Yojana, which reached the villages and the
poor, became an example for the world, and
countries like Ghana, and Bangladesh have
also adopted the success model of India. In
India, there were about 5 lakh deaths every
year due to the smoke emanating from
cooking with traditional fuels like wood,
coal, dung cakes, etc. Most of them were
women, whose poor health affected the
whole family. Its effect was also visible in air
pollution. Despite this, for such a long period
of independence, clean fuel like cooking gas
was kept confined to the affluent class
