of 'vocal for local' and 'self-reliance' and local Indian
products are becoming the first choice of the global
market.

SWADESHI: BEFORE INDEPENDENCE AND NOW
The Swadeshi movement is one of the major
milestones of India's independence. The Swadeshi
movement was started on 7 August 1905 after the
announcement of the partition of Bengal. Indians
resolved to boycott government services, schools,
courts, and foreign goods and promote indigenous
goods. That is, it was a political movement as well
as a movement that caused economic damage to
the British. As a result of the movement, there was a
significant decline in imports during the years 1905-
08. This led to the establishment of indigenous textile
mills, soap and match factories, tanneries, banks,
and insurance companies, etc. in the country. It also
revived the Indian cottage industry.
From the call of 'Vocal for Local' made in 2014 to
the mantra of Aatmanirbhar Bharat during the Covid
period, a Swadeshi movement has started, which
