PM Matsya Sampada Yojana
Leveraging fishery farming
Jyoti Vijendra Kol of Mumble, Maharashtra has been engaged in the fishing business for
the last 8 years. Earlier vehicles and other service providers were needed to transport
the fish caught to the processing units. This not only increased the daily cost but also
caused delays in the supply of fish due to dependence on other vendors, the quality
also deteriorated. The dream of having his own insulated van to deliver fresh fish to
consumers was fulfilled by the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana. Now he has a
trawler and a profitable fish supply business, operated from New Ferry Wharf Mumble.
The insulated van helps him reach the retail market more easily. As per the fish demand,
the insulated vehicle is run from Mumbai, Mahul Gaon to the processing units in Taloja,
Gujarat, and Veraval in Karnataka. This vehicle provides direct employment opportunities
for drivers, cleaners, and loading and unloading staff.
Subhash Das, a graduate from Cachar in Assam, is benefiting from fish farming and has
become a role model in the region. He has established a successful fish and fish seed
farming business. He has increased his household income by more than 90 percent and
employs 5 local youths. He has been awarded the Best Fish Farmer of the District for his
outstanding contribution to the fisheries sector. Assam Fin Hatchery Operator Subhash
Das availed Rs 10 lakh from the PM Matsya Sampada Yojana for the construction of a
fin fish hatchery. This hatchery produces 14 metric tonnes of fish annually and sells and
exports more than two crore fish seeds.
