Combat Roles for Women in the
Armed Forces
n Significant progress has been made regarding the
induction of women into the National Defence
Academy (NDA); 17 women cadets graduated in May
2025, and 15 women cadets graduated in November
2025.
n Women officers are now assuming senior leadership
and operational command roles, including positions
such as Lieutenant General, fighter pilot, and
commander of key units.
n The induction of women officers into combat roles
began on an experimental basis in 2015 and was
formalized as a permanent scheme in 2022.
The number of women
officers in the armed forces
has risen to approximately 11 LPG connections
11,000 crore were provided.
Kitchens were
made smoke-
free.
n Women save 2 to 3 hours
daily—time previously spent
gathering firewood for
cooking.
n LPG coverage in the country
rose from 55.9 percent (April
2014) to 107.2 percent (April
2026).
n The number of consumers
increased from 14.51
crore (April 2014) to 33.39
crore (April 2026), and
consumption doubled.
