                  Goals Achieved Ahead of Schedule

n India achieved its target of reducing the emission intensity of its
GDP 11 years ahead of schedule—specifically, as early as 2019.

n India fulfilled its 2015 Nationally Determined Contribution
(NDC) target—related to increasing the share of non-fossil fuel-
based energy sources—nine years ahead of the stipulated deadline.
n Under the National Biofuel Policy, the target for ethanol-blended
petrol was also achieved five months ahead of the scheduled
                   timeline.
n The 2030 target set under the Paris Agreement—to achieve 50%
of installed electricity capacity from non-fossil fuel-based energy
sources—was achieved in June 2025, five years ahead of schedule.
n Between 2005 and 2020, India reduced its emission intensity by
                   36%.
n By 2021, India had created an additional carbon sink equivalent to
2.29 billion tonnes of CO2, which is very close to the 2030 target
                   of 2.5 billion tonnes.
n In March 2026, the Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister,
approved India’s next Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC)
                   for the 2031–2035 period.

n India is set to achieve 500 GW of non-fossil fuel-based electricity
                   capacity by the year 2030.
