ABOUT A NEW CONSCIOUSNESS
Our history as a modern, independent nation is only 75 years old, but our civilization dates back
more than 5,000 years. India has also made significant contributions to human knowledge. The
Amrit Mahotsav of Independence is being celebrated as a better and more focused effort to
present the nation's 75-year achievements to the next generation and to broaden the knowledge
stream on a global scale. Today's independent India owes much of its success to the freedom
fighters who, during India's struggle for independence, instilled in the populace a sense of pride
in their country through mass organisation and writing. C.Y. Chintamani, Sagarmal Gopa, C.F.
Andrews, and V.V. Subramanya Iyer were among these freedom fighters. In this episode of the
Amrit Mahotsav Independence series, we learn how they not only fought the British Empire, but
also organised people and awoke a new wave of consciousness.
