UNESCO lists India's Moidams as World
Heritage Site

The World Heritage Committee on July 26 included
Assam's historic "Moidams - Mound-burial system
of Ahom dynasty" in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
It became the first World Heritage site in the North
East and the 43rd World Heritage site of India. This
historical recognition draws global attention to the
700-year-old mound burial system of the Ahom
kings in Charaideo. It highlights the rich cultural
heritage of Assam and India. Inclusion in the World
Heritage List will increase its popularity and world
attraction. Earlier, there were 42 World Heritage
sites in India, out of which 34 are cultural, seven
natural and one mixed site. This shows the diversity

have been included in the UNESCO World Heritage
