India Shines in QS Asia
University Rankings
The QS Asia University Rankings show a record 1,125% growth in the number of Indian
universities. While the list included 24 universities across the country in 2016, it has
increased to 294 in the 2026 rankings. According to the list, five of Asia’s top
10 universities, and 28 of the top 50, are Indian universities. India is now
becoming Asia’s “research powerhouse”, and universities are
establishing a new identity globally through modern education,
research, and innovation under the National Education Policy.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his happiness over
the record increase in the number of Indian universities in the
rankings over the past decade. He stated that our government
is committed to ensuring quality education for our youth
by focusing on research and innovation. We are also building
institutional capacity in this area by strengthening more
educational institutions across
India.
