Small artisans play an important role in the production of local crafts. The PM
Vishwakarma Yojana aims to empower them. Skilled artisans contributed to export
in their own way in ancient India. However, during the long period of slavery, this
skilled workforce was long neglected, and their work was regarded as unimportant.
Skilled artisans represent the true spirit of self-reliance in India, and the present
central government regards them as the Vishwakarma of New India. We have
blacksmiths, goldsmiths, potters, carpenters, sculptors, artisans, and masons, many
of whom have been an important part of society for centuries. The PM Vishwakarma
Yojana will provide them with a new identity.
