KC RUNREMSANGI
PROMOTING MIZO FOLK MUSIC
t has been decided to confer Padma Shri on folk singer KC Runremsangi,
Ia resident of Mizoram's Aizawl. She has been working for the promotion
of Mizo folk music in the country for more than three decades. She says
that she adopted singing and dancing at a young age just for her hobby but
gradually her interest in music increased and people also started getting
influenced by her folk singing.
In the early days, she used to sing Mizo songs at church functions and
wedding ceremonies. She had also registered with All India Radio. She
recorded more than 50 Mizo songs in various genres including folk, religion,
education, and love. In recognition of her contribution to the field of folk
music, she was awarded the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in the year
2017.
SUBHADRA DEVI
SHE HAS KEPT PAPER MACHE ART ALIVE
t has been decided to award Padma Shri to Subhadra
IDevi, a resident of Madhubani, Bihar, for her outstanding
contribution to the art of paper mache. Subhadra Devi has
been practicing this art for more than 65 years. Several art
and craft workshops focused on her creations have been
organized. She also participated in British Museum and
International Indian Folk Art Gallery. Subhadra Devi was
also awarded the state-level honour in the year 1980 and
the national honour in the year 1992.
JODHAIYABAI BAIGA
HELPING TRIBAL WOMEN AND
CHILDREN WITH HER ART
t has been decided to give Padma Shri award to Jodhaiyabai Baiga
Iof Madhya Pradesh for her excellent work in the field of painting.
With her skill, she is working for the tribal areas and the women.
Baiga is helping more than 200 tribal women and children earn
their living by giving them training in painting. Her paintings are
displayed in national and international level painting exhibitions.
Apart from Nari Shakti Puraskar, she has also been honoured by
the Ministry of Women and Child Development.
