Towards a
Skilled India
Every nation possesses unique potential, but harnessing it requires the power of youth. The
more empowered the youth, the greater the nation’s progress. In this context, the Skill India
Mission has emerged as a robust pillar, significantly empowering young people at the grassroots
level. Launched on July 15, 2015, this mission has become a transformative initiative, skilling
and empowering lakhs of people across the country over the past 11 years.
itya Devi Nihotia, a tribal woman from a
remote village in Tripura, received training
N in rubber plantation work through the Skill
India Mission and started a nursery. She now earns
a monthly profit of ₹4,000 from this venture. As a
beneficiary of the scheme, Nihotia believes that
access to the right information at the right time
can resolve many challenges. Another such story Nitya Devi Nihotia
is that of two sisters, Poonam and Komal. Their
financial situation was so dire that they had been
unable to continue their education. In these trying
circumstances, Skill India emerged as a ray of
hope. Both sisters underwent skill training and are
now employed by a textile company. They not only
support their families but have also become role
models for women aspiring to achieve financial
independence through their skills. Today, Nitya
Devi, Poonam, and Komal are among those who
have completed training under various Skill India
schemes and programs, giving new wings to their

The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepre-
neurship launched the Skill India Mission on July
15, 2015. This mission provided Indian youth with India proved to be a milestone, helping to empower
an excellent platform to hone their professional lakhs of Indian youth by connecting them with in-
