OPENING THE DOOR OF DIGNITY
"We are now happily residing in a
cemented pucca house. Thanks to the
government for assisting poor families
like us in building pucca houses. I am
now the proud owner of this home. "
Shashi Barik, a widowed woman living in
a dilapidated house in Odisha's Balangir
district, spoke these words after receiving
assistance from the Pradhan Mantri
Awas Yojana-Rural to construct a pucca
house during the Corona epidemic. It
was difficult to get even twice the food
a day for a five-member family with the
earnings of a daily wage laborer's son.
In such a case, the dream of a pucca
house was realised thanks to a grant of
Rs 1,30,000/-from the Pradhan Mantri
Awas Yojana-Gramin. Shashi constructed
constructingthe house quickly, for which
the government provided incentive funds.

Bandhana Oraon, 59, of Chapka village
in Jharkhand's Gumla district, was living
in a one-room kutcha house. It was
particularly difficult during the rainy and
winter seasons because the children
frequently became ill. Building a pucca
house seemed like a dream, but with the
assistance of PMAY-G, the dream became
a reality. Bandhana constructed her home
with the assistance of family members.
Bandhana is now living in a new house with
her family thanks to the Pradhan Mantri
Awas Yojana, which has opened the door
to dignity. A pucca house owner is self-
assured enough to face any situation. She
is now encouraging others in the village to
finish their homes as soon as possible.
